Editor's Note: Setting the Bar High at the Top of 2018

From The Netherlands to Turkey via the yards of Italy, this week has kept us on our toes in terms of partially completed new projects, and more prominently, impressive new launches.

Of course, the primary focus of the week was the reveal of Oceanco & Luiz de Basto’s first collaboration Project Shark, a genuinely striking new approach to yachting style with a Top 100 length which has sparked a few conversations in the Superyachts.com office.

With 90-metres of length and a globally revered yard, Luiz de Basto has had a lot of space to play and has set a new bar for truly unique design. Launching into 69th position in the hundred largest yachts ever built, Project Shark is a continuation of outstanding work coming from the Oceanco yard.

Across The Netherlands in Oss, Heesen Yachts also continued a string of successful announcements with the launch of White. This 50-metre superyacht follows in the wake of reports surrounding Project Falcon (sold) and VanTom (delivered) that have planted the flag firmly in the year for the Dutch yacht builders.

In Italy, we were treated to an insight into the ongoing construction of the WIDER 165 superyacht project Cecilia which is rapidly advancing toward launch and preparing to continue the brand ethos bringing high-tech superyachts to the water.

Moving to Turkey, the Bilgin shipyard offered up a video short of the 80-metre 263’s journey to the water. This is a milestone project for the Bilgin shipyard who gained high-acclaim with the launch of Narissa and is now preparing to build on that momentum with the eagerly awaited 2019 delivery of the 263.

We’ve continued talking to the industry this week, with Rose Lishman discussing the projects under the banner of TWW Yachts and Christina Tsangaris looking to Honduras for the Barefoot escape experience; and I’ll be back next week with more instalments for our Architecture Series.

Be sure to keep up to date on our social feeds across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or feel free to get in touch with us here if you have anything you would like us to look into. Until next week!
