Monaco Yacht Show: Editors Comments - Day 2

Day two of the Monaco Yacht Show has returned to form and allowed us to host a number of important discussions surrounding the superyacht industry; however, there is one topic we discussed with three people which is more important than any other.

We started the day talking with The Blue Marine Foundation, an organisation which is fighting for the preservation of the world’s oceans – which Managing Director Cindy Forde believes will be completely devoid of any wildlife by 2050 if we as a species continue on the path of overfishing and pollution.

This has struck a massive chord with me given the fact that we are all here to celebrate the opportunities presented to us by the ocean – however, while this may seem like a bleak start to the day, it is a very solvable problem.

For example, Eric Carey of the Bahamas National Trust is a representative of 27 protected marine parks in the Exumas and has helped reduce pollution and overfishing in the region. This reduction in traffic has helped fish and wildlife population return to power, further other regional growth and has continued to aid the Bahamian tourism.

This model of overfishing reduction is not the only ethical conversation taking place today. VSY’s very own Sustainability Manager Vienna Eleuteri joined us in the Breaking News Centre to discuss their position as green construction developers and highlighted some very important facts surrounding yacht construction.

Make sure to keep an eye on the site to catch up with all of our latest video interviews.
