Editors Comments: Week Ending 16/01/2015

The Top 100 is a simple structure, built on the listing and forecast of the largest yachts we predict to emerge from the world’s finest shipyards across each year; however it’s what this list of large yachts means to the industry which makes it worth celebrating.

It’s taken time and dedication to create the Superyachts.com Top 100 Press Workshop and Forecast Launch - in association with Y.CO - but the very fact that this list illustrates how far the industry has come which makes it so worth while.

The two driving factors behind what took place this week include the ability to share the achievements of the superyacht industry with the press, and the desire to celebrate, and recognize, the work that it takes to create these yachts.

The superyacht community has come a very long way since the 1920s, or what’s commonly referred to as the ‘bygone era of luxury yachting’ - where the Onassis’ of the world turned heads in a port with the rarely seen sight of an old school Feadship or a Lurssen.

However today is a very different story. The high-net-worths of the world, combined with the minds and hands behind each project in the global superyacht fleet, have made what was once a tiny fleet of special yachts, an armada of stunning cutting-edge luxury yachts which are evolving faster than ever.

The Top 100 is, as previously mentioned, a celebration of this; and we would like to thank each and every individual who supported us in building the event to its current standing, every industry member who hosted workshops, the press who attended, the guests who joined us across the evening to enforce just how special this industry is and what it can do.

I would also like to provide a personal thank you to BLUE, a team who are doing truly vital work in order to sustain the world’s oceans. An effort which everyone inside and out of this industry can agree is of paramount importance.
