As the summer charter season begins to get underway, we’re looking at the work of one particular brokerage firm; but not in the ways of charter or purchase. The Y.CO team are about to embark on an extreme challenge for two equal and important charities, entering in to the cold as the seasonal change brings the heat for America and Europe.
Yesterday, we were given the update through the Headnorth Blog that the team had gathered in Longyearbyen, the largest settlement in Svalbard, Norway, to begin the first phase of their journey which will take them to Ice Camp Barneo. Once there, the team will begin the sledge haul to the North Pole where temperatures will continue to drop from the current surroundings of -12 to -18°C.
The Y.CO Headnorth blog continues: “The sledges, sponsored by our brilliant and generous Sledge Partners, have been loaded up with supplies, and in a couple of days we'll fly out to Ice Cap Barneo to set out. You can track our progress here and we'll be updating you on where we're at every evening on the blog. And please keep donating to The Lewis Moody Foundation and the Royal Marine Charitable Trust Fund. These amazing causes are the reason we're doing this, so please support them!”
We’ll be following their progress and looking into the charities to discover the benefits that this intrepid journey will bring as well as the actionable and responsible evolution this industry represents. Until then, we wish Gary, Charlie and Yves - alongside the rest of the team - the best of luck and look forward to delivering the updates as they emerge.
In the meantime, the Superyachts.com office is closing up shop for the Easter Weekend on Friday 3rd and will be back to bring you all the updates on the 7th of April. For those of you with a bank holiday in the UK to those of you in places a lot warmer than London, have a fantastic weekend.
