Editors Comments: Week Ending - 06/06/2014
There’s nothing that quite matches the experience of standing eye to eye with the bow of a 101 metre superyacht in construction and it’s something I remember perfectly well from last year’s visit to Feadship during the 2013 HISWA Press Tour. This year, I’ve had the opportunity to catch up with the projects I saw during the last trip, and see some new ones too.
This has been a busy week so far. With seven builders and engineering facilities ticked off the list, I’ve learned a lot from my week on the road – and on the water.
I’ve been impressed with new projects such as the future projects in build at the Oceanco yard i.e. seeing the Y710 (88 metres) and a sneak peak at the Y711 sailing yacht underway alongside discussing the remaining projects to follow; such as the 105m Y712 Dyna Rig ‘Solar’, the 110m Y714 which is arriving at the new dock soon, the 87.20m Y715 and the 90m Y716.
Not only have the Oceanco build projects caught my attention, but Feadship’s long list of upcoming launches is enough to pique anyone’s interest after stepping on board the 92 metre project. Hull number 686 is an 83 metre under construction followed by hull #687 which measures 60.35m designed by Sinot Yacht Design; #689 which is a 46.40m project; #690 is 44.20m with a Bannenberg and Rowell interior; #808 is the ground-breaking 101 metre designed by Tim Heywood with a Francois Zuretti / Peter Marino interior; #809 is a 66.89m from Eidsgaard design; #810 is a 57.45 metre and the impressive 92 metre is an in-house De Voogt creation. This is just what we were allowed to know.
But even with all these new projects being discussed and walking around new boats in yards such as Amels, Heesen and Feadship, we just can’t release anything too revealing at this time. However, I’ve been briefed, presented to and shown around the whole of the Netherlands so I will be bringing you in-depth features on things to come in the very near future.
In the meantime, the HISWA 2014 Press Trip is about to move out and on to Hakvoort, followed by a tour of Amsterdam with Vripack, so I’ll take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the organisation of the tour and keeping us journalists entertained. Keep an eye on the website for more information.
