Editor’s Note: New Project Previews Across Europe

Over the weekend, Lurssen Yachts introduced the classically styled superyacht project Thor to the water under the official name of Aurora, marking a big week for new project previews across Europe.

Lurssen set a huge benchmark for both technical and official launches in 2016, and have continued that trend moving into 2017. This stunning and stylish yacht emerged from the yard, unveiling a first look at the Winch Design exterior, and as tradition states, keeping a world of secrets within.

Heesen Yachts also joined the fore this week with the first look launch of Project Maia, a 50-metre superyacht with flowing lines and distinctive character from Clifford Denn and Reymond Langton Design. This new entry to the global superyacht fleet comes from one of the most prolific yacht builders in Europe, and one of the most progressive, so I look forward to seeing what the year still holds for Heesen.

The new project spotlight quickly turned to Italy this week as well, after Perini Navi announced an incredible order update for two Picchiotti motor yachts, One, a 52-metre full displacement project, and the other, a completely secret custom vessel. With sailing prowess in their DNA and a burgeoning motor yacht fleet, Perini Navi are one of the most exciting builders to date and I greatly look forward to seeing how the Picchiotti style evolves over 2017 and 2018.

Riva and Benetti also joined the Italian project reveal porfolio after teasing a new Riva 50-metre as well as an exciting first look at the Benetti superyacht Spectre.

Still, with all of these new projects commanding headlines, the superyacht calendar rages on and Palm Beach looms around the corner. All eyes are now on this US superyacht showcase after the announcement of Informa’s acquisition, and will no doubt deliver on the activity expected later this month. To get you in the mood, we took a look at the largest yachts set to arrive on the docks which you can read here.

Until next week, I look forward to bringing you more updates from the world of yachting, but in the meantime you can keep up to date across our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter streams or email me here to keep me in the loop of anything you think we’ve missed.
