Editor's Note: Global Spectacles Across Road & Water

The heat of the Mediterranean summer attracted the global elite to Cannes, and now to Monaco for the Grand Prix; however, while the world watches in awe at the spectacle underway at the Cote d’Azur, the superyacht community has been busy with its own remarkable announcements, launches and updates.

Benetti came to the fore this week with three major announcements, including a sale and two launches. The first, taking place on May 18th, was the reveal of Lady Lillian, before bringing forward the sale of a custom 47-metre and the breaking story of Lejos 3 today.

WIDER announced the re-launch of Genesi as Bartali, just after news hit of the Italian shipyard’s total acquisition by shareholders Genting Hong Kong. This marks a new era for the yard and I for one, being a fan of the progressive style and construction technique, look forward to bringing more from the shipyard, very soon.

Across the Atlantic, change is on the horizon as the IYBA prepare to reintroduce a bill which could very well change the way yachts are sold on the American market for good. Should congress pay attention and change the outdated law, U.S. citizens will be able to purchase yachts in U.S. waters, bringing forward billions in economic drivers as well as jobs across the United States.

In Bermuda, the America’s Cup is reaching fever pitch with only a few days left before the finals bring champions together on a natural ampitheatre on the Great Sound. We caught up with Caroline Bay Marina, home to Swiss team Artemis Racing to find out more in our run-up to the deciding bout.
