Editor's Note: The Dawn of 'Next Generation'

The discussion of glass in the future of superyacht design has been a contentious point for some years; however Oceanco, the shipyard responsible for bringing solar power to the water, has brought forward a new project with Luiz de Basto this week to take owners through the looking glass.

‘Cosmos’ is the next big project following on from Oceanco’s revolutionary ‘Moonstone’ and the recently launched Black Pearl. An incredible concept, the use of glass on board can be found in a dome like design which allows unbridled connectivity to the universe and the surrounding waters.

With more and more yachts making exciting new uses of glass, such as subaquatic viewing platforms on S/Y A and increasingly popular design features using glass creatively across futuristic superstructures, it genuinely feels like we are standing on the edge of major change and entering a new era of design.

While on the topic of futuristic superstructures, Rossinavi & Pininfarina’s ‘Aurea’ emerged over the last week and brought a new meaning to the term ‘flowing lines’. This pure creativity in exterior style is a result of Pininfarina’s years of working to create the world’s finest luxury cars, and adds a new dimension to the notion of evolution in design across 2017.

Laurent Giles this week joined the evolutionary discussion to present the 110m HEMY, a high-efficiency motor yacht that relies on world-class, progressive naval architecture to provide the project with more space, less resistance and cutting-edge capabilities.

This somewhat idealistic view of a new era in design is a symptom of our continuing work speaking with creatives and engineers across the world; all for a project I can not yet unveil, but we’ll be giving you a first look in the very near future.

In that vein, we’re returning to Monaco next week to take a closer look at the launch of a new brand, builder and next-gen boat; giving you the updates directly from the deck.

So, in the meantime you can catch up with us across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, or get in touch with us here if you think we’re missing something. Until next week!
