Editor's Note: The Art of Innovation

'Innovation' is an interesting concept. A term used widely to describe new breakthroughs across the world, yet merely serves to illustrate the daily routine when put in context of the yachting industry.

Thousands of projects, across hundreds of yards all present an argument for innovation; no matter how small. From the potential behind using fuel cells as propulsion, to new lines and profiles dominating the water as each launch documents an evolution of style.

In case you couldn't tell from the somewhat conceptual tone, I'm back on the road this week to discuss new innovations with some of the design and construction revolutionaries of Italy.

Our first shoot took place in CRN, a shipyard that has embraced evolution, innovation and new technology across its existence. The tender garage on J'Ade is an ideal example, and an innovation I was reminded of as I stood on board the 50-metre Super Cornero superyacht; a new build project which will once again reintroduce the concept of a 'hop-off' interior tender dock.

Our second stop is CdM, a yard just down the road with four explorers underway and a long history of taking owners across the world in new and innovative styles. From where I stand, each of these projects and upcoming launches adds fuel to this week's passing obsession of innovation; but, any more digression and I'd be giving the game away.

In the meantime, while I spend the week watching sparks fly and blue welding torches bounce off aluminium in Italy, our editorial team took something of a different focus.
