Editor's Note: Design Language
The distant rocks of the Isle of Wight are the perfect writing companion after a busy week working with some of the design icons of Lymington, just one of the few superyacht design quarters of the UK. But, before we head back to the office and the ever-looming responsibilities of post-production, there were a few updates from the yacht design community that complemented my focus this week nicely.
The design of the SeaXplorer blew me away in 2015. I remember approaching the AMELS stand at FLIBS with the confusion, awe and excitement of a big kid. This giant, aggressive and autonomous beast was the new project launch from AMELS and DAMEN, and it still gets me, even today.
So, it was an absolute pleasure to release the announcement that the latest 75-metre SeaXplorer had not only found an owner, but is now set to join its 65-metre sister ship in the yard with a 2020 launch.
We’ve had the pleasure of looking at the latest of the wider design community; including Roberto Cavalli’s new project - set to enter construction at CCN - as well as new designs from Theodoros Fotiadis and Marco Ferrari.
Vitality and the F65 are two completely different creatures, but both interpret the design language of space to benefit those on board in ways representative of the changes taking place across the industry.
Design has changed drastically, and discussing it with some of the world's most forward thinking designers has been nothing but a pleasure this week; being the self-confessed design geek I am. However, I’ll leave it to our upcoming project to shine a light on that.
We’re off back to the capital, but in the meantime, feel free to let us know if we’ve missed anything by getting in touch with me here. Alternatively, keep up to date with our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Updates may be a bit slower than usual, but I can assure you that while I’m out of the office and conversing with the superyacht world, something bigger is coming.
