While the forward progress of the superyacht industry is a long-burning goal which the builders, brokers and designers of the yachting community constantly work toward, rarely does a significant sign of this evolution manifest itself in a particular example.
This week Feadship launched the largest hybrid superyacht ever built under the name of Savannah. Albeit there is some uncertainty behind the claim that Savannah is the world’s first ever hybrid yacht, it most certainly is the world’s first hybrid ‘superyacht’ and a milestone for an industry in the early stages of a green revolution.
The green aspect to yacht building is still very much in its infancy; however this shows that there is a market for owners looking to protect the waters and a sector more than willing to build custom yachts with an ecological edge.
However this was not the only new launch to reach the headlines this week. Heesen Yachts proudly announced the successful launch of Asya, a 47m motor yacht which combines the skilled craftsmanship of the prolific Dutch yacht builder, the design talent of the return collaborator Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and an interior styling by British design studio Bannenberg & Rowell.
It’s been nothing short of an exciting start to 2015, and if what we discovered during the Top 100 earlier this month is true, it’s going to get even better.
