The last twenty-one days have provided us with intriguing stories from across the superyacht sector which have been a departure from the usual headlines and a deployment into cause and adventure.

The latest announcement comes as the team behind Y.CO prepare to embark on an arctic journey, taking Co-founders Charlie Birkett and Gary Wright, along with Director of Yacht Management Yves Damette, from Ice Camp Bameo to the Geographic North Pole.

Joining them will be members of the 2003 Rugby World Cup-winning team, Lewis Moody MBE. Danny Grewcock MBE. and Josh Lewsey MBE. Three Royal Marines will also accompany the group, including expedition leader, accomplished polar explorer Alan Chambers MBE FRGS.

With the aim of raising both awareness and £250,000, the beneficiaries of the 100km trek will be both the Lewis Moody Foundation and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund; two charities which fight to help those with head injuries and brain tumours, while the other provides support for military personnel who have suffered in service.

The contributions have already been pouring in from across the superyacht world, bringing the current tally to 36% of the final total and proving that the world’s most unique and fascinating industry has the power to not only create ground-breaking marine projects, but change the lives of thousands of people without access to the superyacht lifestyle.

I am personally excited about keeping up with the Y.CO expedition and will be bringing you updates directly from the front as the team try to complete a difficult challenge and make an important change. Donate or catch up with their progression here.
