As my time in this industry goes on, I find myself getting more and more fascinated by the world of design. The clean sheet start to the life of a superyacht, driven by an owner's passion and drawn by the creative force of the designers, is something which is easily glossed over.

The creativity it takes to turn a blank page into a floating project is something of an epic feat, as much as I vehemently dislike the word. While we all spend too much time focussing on new launches and spotting pictures of half constructed projects, it’s hard to overlook the complex project process which sparks thousands of man hours in construction, all from one sheet of paper.

What’s more, is that each project which reaches completion pushes the boundaries of design and construction, leading the superyacht industry into an exciting new future. The traditional and conservative white hull and superstructure of the 90s and early 00s large motor yachts is being replaced with radical new designs and a new generation of emerging designers.

The past few weeks have welcomed updates from across the world regarding a number of fascinating designs come to life; such as the new breed of Oceanco sailing yachts which are under construction and nearing delivery at an impressive speed, the Nobiskrug ‘White Pearl’ sailing yacht which has seemingly been launched under cover and the rebirth of a classic J Class yacht with Holland Jachtbouw.

These new construction projects are the results of past design revolutions, but new ones are happening every day - thus completing an incredible circle of creativity within a (relatively speaking) old fashioned industry which is fast becoming a leading example of global intelligent industrial progression.
