Editor's Notes: Explorers, Super Novas and Sloops
A number of new entrants to the global superyacht fleet have emerged recently, and this week we’ve brought you a focus on the best projects reaching the water, being signed and moving ever closer to launch.
Galactica Super Nova was the primary launch of the week, taking form of Heesen Yachts’ largest launch to date. Measuring 70 metres, this is a huge step forward for Heesen Yachts in terms of size; however, their exceptional style remains in place as with all projects.
This new flagship launch was also joined by another update from the Dutch superyacht builder, who today announced the appointment of a new CEO. Arthur Brouwer, who was previously Executive Chairman, joined the company in 2014 and has notioned toward plans of growth for the yard.
The second new (re)launch to take place this week was the successful 6 million euro refit of Indian Empress, the 95 metre superyacht originally launched by Oceanco in 2000. One of the Top 100 largest yachts in the world, the major refit programme has brought back one of the finest yachts launched that year to her former glory.
The explorer sector of the industry received new updates this week after Floating Life successfully sold the second in their K Series of explorer yachts K42. Furthermore, Sanlorenzo managed to launch their second explorer in the 460EXP range (pictured), having sold five since the range’s debut at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show.
In the sailing world, a number of yards such as Claasen and Yachting Developments announced projects nearing the water; however Perini Navi stole the show by mast stepping and launching the new sloop Dahlak last weekend.
