Editor's Note: The Expansion of Exploration

The most memorable moments in life are found in exploration, adventure and the experiences that demand us to leave our comfort zones. While this may not necessarily be a universally applicable statement, the inundation of explorer yacht news this week leads me to believe that it applies to a good many out there.

Legend’s recent entrance on the scene was something that captured the hearts of the adventurers and explorers alike, while making a decent case for refit. This rugged new yacht may be set for luxurious entertainment on board, but after speaking with her charter managers at Camper & Nicholsons, I found out that Legend has a lot planned for her guests. It seems that a close link with Legend and Sherakhan, another outstanding explorer on the charter market, is Greenland. Both charter yachts came forward to offer an amazing heli-skiing experience to guests looking to explore the region due to the ideal timing and exhilarating experience it offers. Not to mention the draw of the road less travelled.

While it may not be the size of Legend or Sherakhan - who both breach the 70 metre mark - Turkish shipyard Numarine has started construction on its first explorer yacht.

This striking 30m+ range is an excellent example of yacht builders working with the demand of exploration from owners. Canados is another example, unveiling their first ever entry level ‘Fast Expedition’ yacht this week as the first goes into construction.

The superyacht industry lost an iconic member of it's global community in the passing of Ed Dubois last week. I would be remiss in my statement if I didn't share my condolences with his friends and family in this message. It was an honour listening to his colleagues share fond memories of him. He will be missed.
