Editor's Note: Up Close and Personal
We are not even at the halfway point in 2016 and the superyacht world has already furnished us with a dazzling array of new projects. We focus on one of the very best in today’s newsletter.
Currently being constructed by Turkish yacht builder Turquoise Yachts, the 77-metre NB 63 project is the brainchild of renowned London-based studio H2 Yacht Design. We caught up with Mehmet Karabeyoglu, CEO of Turquoise Yachts, to find out more about one of the most eagerly awaited yacht launches of the year.
Elsewhere this week, we turn our attention back on the America’s Cup, which returns to the iconic location of Portsmouth in just 100 days’ time for another World Series event. Last year, huge crowds turned out to watch Sir Ben Ainslie's home team Land Rover BAR take victory on the Solent, and they’ll be hoping to do so again this time round.
In other news, we profile Port Denia in Spain, one of southern Europe’s finest marinas, which promises to be one of the most popular summer destinations for superyachts this year.
There’s also been activity in the brokerage market – most notably with the 40.1-metre motoryacht Nameless undergoing a significant price reduction.
Meanwhile, we bring you updates on the upcoming 50-metre collaboration between Italian shipyard Benetti and legendary designer Henrik Fisker, while Philippe Briand discusses the growing trend of utilising glass in sailing yacht design.
If that’s not enough there’s an exclusive look at the interior of Moonen’s first ‘Matica’ project, as well as a report on yacht builders Sanlorenzo who have recently moved their first two 52Steel models into new shipyard facilities in La Spezia.
Until next time, have a great week.
