Editor's Note: The Journey to Monaco
The imminent embarkation of 50 cyclists heading from London to the heart of Monaco will no doubt fire the starting pistol of the highly anticipated countdown to the Monaco Yacht Show. Yet, the announcement of an increased UK Overseas Territory marine protected area, covering the landmass of India and beyond stole our attention for long enough to steal the day’s focus.
Coming from the office of the Foreign Minister, the Post-Brexit government is set to pledge £20 million to increasing the protected areas across the oceans of the Pitcairn Islands and St Helena. In other news, Amels noted the start of a different journey today with the same destination in mind. The newly-updated 55 metre Support Vessel Fast & Furious shared a slice of its journey with us as it powered through the waters of Holland to start its navigation toward Port Hercules for the Monaco Yacht Show.
Sealyon, our Superyacht in Focus also had Monaco in its sites today, with a plan to anchor off in Monaco Bay and join the fleet of myriad superyachts outside the show.
The journey also found itself to be reversed this week when His Highness Prince Albert II took Monaco to the builders of the world’s largest yachts this week, visiting the Nobiskrug shipyard – the builders responsible for the latest icon of the water Sailing Yacht A.
The next two weeks will be a constant journey to the Monaco Yacht Show, and I look forward to bringing you more insights into the show, with increasing rapidity, as the date closes in and the Breaking News Centre returns.
