Editor's Note: The Last Leg

With just a few weeks between here and the holiday season, we’re embarking on a journey to look back over 2016 and piece together some of the most entertaining, revolutionary and memorable moments that shook the industry and held the front pages.

We’ve learnt more than we could imagine this year as we travelled across the world to discuss how shattered geo-political records have shown nothing but continued stoicism for the superyacht industry.

New launches have set new precedents, the latest design trends show a promising shift toward the future and new orders continue in the face of uncertainty. It's this very reason why 2016 will be a defining year for the superyacht community, not to mention the world.

Tightening the focus somewhat to the week at hand, we were lucky enough to be privy to a brand-new technical launch at Feadship. This custom builder has nothing but dominated the front pages as of late and provided a slew of revolutionary projects that they are so well known for.

This comes after we had the honour of stepping on board superyacht Savannah at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show and discussing the intricacy of her design with the person responsible, Cristina Gherardi.

Top 100 news has been prevalent elsewhere in the superyacht world this week after Kleven announced the ongoing sea trials of their second revolutionary explorer the 370. After the knockout success of Ulysses, this project will undoubtedly place the Norwegian builder’s on top stead in both the Top 100 and the eye of the owner.

We’ll be delivering more industry, design and construction news over the next few weeks as we simultaneously look back at what makes this year so memorable. Until then!
