Editor's Note: Iconic Designs of Past, Present and Future
The year as it stands has brought forward an amazing amount of new launches, from the year’s start with Aviva taking to the Top 100, to this week’s latest Lürssen launch Areti. With double-digit 50m plus superyachts hitting the water over last quarter and the start of spring.
Areti has continued the trend of large yachts hitting the water as Lürssen introduce yet another stunning member of the global superyacht fleet. Measuring 85-metres, this sophisticated motor yacht is the new incarnation of the forecasted Top 100 launch designated Project Sasha, leaving the world keenly waiting projects such as the 139m Redwood and 111m Tis.
In other news, the latest designs set to become the new launches of tomorrow came through in force this week. CRN introduced the brand-new construction project ‘Hull #137’, providing a sneak-peek into a 62m superyacht with distinctive style and a worthy predecessor to Cloud 9.
Baglietto also joined the fore this week as a new military-inspired yacht was revealed, evolving the Italian yards style further following the launch of the 46 Fast and Unicorn. A new design also left the drawing boards of Zuccon International Project for the sheds of Picchiotti, bringing an ultra-cool and rugged explorer to the market.
On the topic of design, we also took a look back at the revered work of Carlo Riva this week following his sad passing. While I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally, his work has been something of an icon of style for me, and a symbol of what the yachting lifestyle is all about. It was a great honour to speak to designers to get a wider view of his work.
In the meantime, the Easter break is upon us and the Superyachts.com team is spring cleaning, updating our offices and planning on bringing you more views from the industry on our return next. Until then, enjoy a well-earned break and feel free to get in touch with me here to update us on superyachts cruising the world’s waters this weekend.
