Editors Comments: Week Ending 10/04/2015

One day back in the office after the Easter break and I was immediately inundated with genuinely incredible stories of expeditions and relief efforts as well as preparations for London’s first exclusive superyacht exhibition in Old Billingsgate.

I can firmly say that no video I have ever published has really quite hit me like the mini-documentary provided by the crew of superyacht Dragonfly. A few weeks ago these guys were sent to region which was devastated by Cyclone Pam, and while that story alone inspired a lot of people, I can’t help but be blown away by the video which was given to me on Tuesday.

The relief work that these people carried out was not only vital, but incredibly unique in its nature. Providing over 62,000 litres of water, treating over 250 casualties and medivacing emergency patients, with the help of both on sea and land help, can only highlight the fact the yachts which we surround ourselves with are not just luxury toys for the elite. Owners and crew can make a difference, and I genuinely hope that message reaches its mark as the crew of Dragonfly deserve credit enough for that.

Another example of this is Y.CO’s Headnorth Expedition which is currently underway in the name of two incredible charities. The team are trekking 100km to the geographic North Pole, and despite crash landings, whiteouts and an arduous journey ahead, they remain undeterred and we wish them nothing but the best of luck with their journey.

However, on a slightly less serious note, I’ve been enjoying the first ever London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show this week and will be delivering a full round up video tomorrow - so stay tuned as this is an event which holds the potential to further London’s position as a major player in the superyacht market.
