This weekend will mark the start of the America’s Cup in Portsmouth, an historic event which brings together passionate sailors from around the world to witness a high-octane race between six teams on board high-tech fast-paced boats.

It is a remarkable fact that in its 164-year history, the famous old trophy has never made it to Britain’s shores. Sir Ben Ainslie, captain and principal of Land Rover BAR, is spearheading his team’s efforts to become the first ever British winners of the cup, to read more about the teams taking part this weekend, click here.

Alternatively you can read our exclusive interview with the legendary sailor Russell Coutts here, to get a better insight into his view on the upcoming race.

While the Superyachts.com office has been preparing to watch the America’s Cup this weekend, industry news has taken to a new level of acitivity. News surrounding new-build contracts, new launches and deliveries have kept our front pages ticking over and reflecting the exciting announcements leading up to events such as the Monaco Yacht Show.

Benetti today reported the sale of yet another project after signing a new-build contract under the name of Spectre with well-known owner John Staluppi. This new project, dubbed FB271, was brokered by Imperial Yachts and joins the exciting prospect of being part of Benetti’s big presence at the Monaco Yacht Show.
In regards to delivering and launching, Sanlorenzo launched their first ever explorer yacht - a distinctive new design and an impressive addition to their line - while Heesen Yachts delivered their latest motor yacht Ann G and Lurssen Yachts conducted sea trials on board Project Orchid, believed to be called Lady Lara.

New designs included Thirty C’s first stamp on independant design with the new MAKO 50 metre concept which focusses on sharp, striking lines which is a fantastic call back to a natural source I can only imagine to be the Mako Shark.

Activity is getting more and more exciting on the run up to the world’s finest yacht shows and, as always, we look forward to giving you the updates.
