Editor's Note: Week Ending 02/10/2015
The first week or so after the Monaco Yacht Show is a heavy post-production phase for us here at Superyachts.com, and something that continues to provide us with insights long after the show has closed.
This week I had the pleasure of launching an interview with Bill Tripp, the man behind the upcoming collaboration sailing yacht with Oceanco and Vitters. Measuring 85 metres, this is Oceanco’s first sailing yacht, and something which has changed the intricate details of large sailing yachts for good.
“A boat like this, working with Vitters and Oceanco, we really have to charges here. One is to make a great sailing boat, but it also has to be an excellent power boat because it’s going to click off some miles … and occasionally, you can turn off the engines put out the sails and go 20 knots, I think we’ll be going 25 knots in the boat in easy conditions. When you’re on a boat and it’s blowing 30 knots, you don’t feel like you’re out in a lot of breeze and you’ll just feel the connection of the sky, the water and the wind.”
In regards to the other details being unveiled, CRN gave us a fantastic insight into all three of their featured yachts at the show, Yalla, Saramour and Atlante. We especially enjoyed the details given about CRNs first explorer Atlante.
“Atlante, you can like it or not like, and that’s coming from us,” explains Luca Boldrini. “The very first time we met [the client], I have to thank him because he was brave, very brave. We were crazy to accept because it’s a very difficult boat to build, but on the other side, I think he’s a visionary. He said ‘I want to build a boat that doesn’t look like a boat’, and the other thing he said as that ‘I love all my cars, they are G Class Mercedes, so I would like to recreate a G Class Mercedes feeling on my boat’ … it gives you that masculine look, that volume look and that off-road look that is quite important.”
More interviews are coming soon, and with more shows on the way such as the highly anticipated Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, I don’t doubt that this note will be the only one with details we discover.
