During filming for the Top 100 Largest Yachts Documentary we visited the AMELS shipyard in Vlissingen, where we caught a rare glimpse of both the AMELS 242 and the AMELS 272 superyachts in construction.

This week, Moran Yacht & Ship has presented us with a photo and an official announcement following the launch and it’s amazing to see her outside of the yard. I’ve always enjoyed watching the Tim Heywood and AMELS collaboration progress, and this only gets stronger with each launch.

Since Event placed a spotlight on the constant evolution of the collaboration, the 242 has now emerged with a striking exterior and black outlines acting as an emphasis at the height of her profile. This is a great insight into how the AMELS range will evolve stylistically as the fleet gets larger and larger, with an 83 metre superyacht nearing launch this year.

Eidsgaard Design’s new project with Feadship left the yard recently as well, named Vanish. This sleek superyacht is a fantastic example of modern sophistication and entered the water to a rock and roll soundtrack, which I fully appreciate as a self-confessed curator of classic rock vinyls.

Speaking of music appreciation, by now you’ve probably seen that we recently interviewed Simon Le Bon - the front man of the unstoppable 80s band Duran Duran - about one of his other passions. As an ambassador for BLUE, the preservation of the ocean is paramount, and Simon helped spread the vital message in a joint interview with BLUE Co-founder Chris Gorell Barnes, which you can watch here.
